After the win of Zohran Mamdani in NYC, I came up with a plan for similar candidates ideologically speaking to win in Indiana, here’s what I’ve come up with:
1 - Change the way roads are given funds: Take into account road width (number of lanes) and usage/wear along with length, rather than just length. Allows for more accurate data and dispersal of funds to where they need to go
1.5 - End the practice of cutting corners and using cheap road fill: Hoosiers deserve good roads, but policies have dictated the usage of weaker materials to save cost, meaning repairs don’t last like they should
2 - Farmers and Rural Workers Revitalization: Aggressively pursue federal grants to subsidize farmers and ensure factors such as bad weather/crop or livestock disease/other factors don’t threaten to bankrupt farmers, begin legislation restraining the amount of big companies buying individually owned farms - The Hoosier State protects Hoosiers Not Big Corporations, Enhance Right to Repair protections, put an end to the health deserts that plague the rural areas of our state
3: Begin plans to expand public transportation from areas outside big cities to give communities greater access to the population centers that hold a greater number of resources people need
And here’s a potential cost breakdown of the policies:
Initial One-Time Costs
~$3.35 billion
• Phased & prioritized road repairs: $3.0B
• Improved road data system: $12.5M
• Rural revitalization (initial state investment): $87.5M
• Scaled public transit expansion: $250M
Ongoing Annual Costs
~$187.5 million/year
• Continued rural support & subsidies: $87.5M/year
• Transit system operations: $100M/year
To deal woth the asphalt thing, you will need to take down the APAI, asphalt pavement association of Indiana. Bug lobbying group and why we can't use better road materials. I even got a couple scholarships from them in college, but I do not agree with what they have been doing. There are so many alternatives that last way longer they won't allow used so they can keep making money.
I have a civil engineering degree and worked in transportation engineering
