Bio: Dr. Valerie McCray is a lifelong Hoosier, born and raised in Indianapolis and a proud graduate of Arsenal Tech High School. While raising her son as a single mother, she earned her BA, MA, and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. With over 35 years in the field of psychology—including 25 as a licensed clinical psychologist—Dr. McCray has worked with veterans, incarcerated individuals, and trauma-affected youth. Her frontline experience has shown her just how deeply policy impacts people’s lives. Now, she’s running to be Indiana’s next U.S. Senator—the first African American woman ever to appear on the statewide Senate ballot. Fierce, compassionate, and resilient, Dr. McCray is ready to fight for mental healthcare access, reproductive rights, living wages, and a government that works for people, not corporations.
