Scott Johnson Closing Address :: We Have To Do More
I think a lot about what's going on in America. I know you do to but I hope this speech gives you a bit of a new perspective.
This speech isn't going to be long. I know you are hot, I appreciate you coming out and being with us under this blazing sun.
So ... Let's recap.
All of this began on January 20, 2025. Today is July 17, 2025.
That is 178 days.
Now I get my hair cut every 6 weeks or every 42 days.
All of this has happened in only 4 haircuts.
I'm going to repeat that: All of this has happened in only 4 haircuts.
America has been transformed in only 4 haircuts:
* We now have soldiers patrolling Los Angeles like it was Mogadishu
* We have our own concentration camp in Florida -- with more likely coming to a state near you. From what I can tell Indiana has its own version under construction right now.
* We have seen even the brave men and women of the FBI cave to Trump
* We have seen America deport people to countries not their own
* We have seen Trump's cuts to NOAA lead to the deaths of innocent children
I would say that's crazy but our opponent is the MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD and clearly he can do anything he wants. The courts, our senators, our congress people and our military have all failed us.
So ... WHAT DO WE DO
That's the question I always get and while I generally try and have an answer for you, I don't always.
All of this is overwhelming, all of this is terrifying.
But today I actually do have an answer and it is a simple one that I'm going to tell you quickly.
Here's the summary:
WE HAVE TO DO MORE
and here's what I mean.
Earlier this week my best friend was driving downtown.
She was on college avenue and she saw a person with their car was stuck in traffic.
So what do you do?
* Do you drive on?
* Do you call a tow truck?
* Do you call the police?
I'll tell you want she did:
None of these.
What she did was stop her car, get out and attempt to help.
And here's why: she could see that the male driver was brown.
And what she feared was that if she turned to the authorities, she didn't know what would happen to him.
In July of 2025, that's a legitimate fear.
So she parked her car, got out and proceeded to help him.
And that's despite not speaking his language.
And that's despite it being inconvenient.
And that's despite her being female and potentially putting herself into a risky situation.
So that's the bottom line -- you want to know what we have to do in 2025 -- the answer is, as it so often is, we have to do more. We have to help each other because the formal systems, the vaunted authorities have failed us.
WE HAVE TO DO MORE
